Overview
A strong advocate for Ethical Leadership and Responsible Business, the CEO Roundtable of Tanzania (CEOrt) has made efforts within the media and through various forums to highlight the negative and long term effects of corruption on the nation’s growing economy.
The Integrity Pledge is a formal and concrete expression of commitment to abide by ethical practices and to support a National Campaign on Ethics and War Against Corruption.
The principles we stand for
Zero tolerance for corruption
Backing the Government of Tanzania’s zero-tolerance approach and highlighting the long-term cost of corruption to a growing economy.
Transparency & accountability
Reinforcing the need for transparency and accountability across the Public and Private Sectors as the basis of an integrous culture.
Leading by example
Business leaders set the tone — from personal ethical stances to the everyday decisions that shape how organisations behave.
Ethics ingrained in organisations
Putting measures in practice that embed ethics in company culture, so integrity outlasts any single leader or policy cycle.
A pledge with history
From State House to the boardroom
President Jakaya Kikwete signed three integrity pledges at State House — a commitment to ensure the state is free from corruption and to strengthen ethics, transparency and integrity amongst the public and private sectors, as part of the Big Results Now goals. Ali Mufuruki, then Chairperson of the CEO Roundtable, stood alongside government leaders as the roughly 100 companies under the CEO Roundtable umbrella took up the same commitment.
The National Integrity Pledge brought attention to the fact that corruption is a multi-stakeholder issue, and provided an opportunity for the Government and Private Sector to combine efforts towards tackling it. Some government organisations now require Integrity Pledge signatures before contracting service providers.
Keeping the dialogue alive
At a CEO Roundtable discussion on “Sustainable Economic Development through Ethical Leadership” in Dar es Salaam, Norman Moyo, CEO of Helios Towers Tanzania Limited, announced an anti-corruption strategy, noting that corruption has been cited by the majority of businesspersons as one of the major impediments to doing business in Tanzania.
In July 2014, the CEOrt welcomed Dr. George Njenga, Dean of Strathmore Business School, who challenged members to take a personal ethical stance in order to tackle corruption, promote good governance and develop the youth into intelligent, ethical leaders.
