About Ashish
Ashish Mistry is the ALAF CEO, responsible to drive and grow the business at ALAF and accountable for the company’s turnover of approximately 140M USD. ALAF Limited, established in 1960 is a subsidiary of SAFAL Group, largest producer of steel roofing and building solution provider in Africa with over 36 businesses, and insights gathered over the last 50 years. Ashish started his career at FIAT India Automobile in 1989 as a trainee engineer and progressed to General Manager, Operations of the plant that was producing cars like Linea, Grande Punto, Palio, TATA Indica and TATA Mwanza.
In this role he designed a car plant form a green-field stage that could produce 130,000 and utilized a budget of $ 250 million. He successfully launched 6 car models and 24 variants, achieving a production target of 300 cars a day and commissioned a plant ramping up production from o to 100 cars per day in 5 months. In 2010, Ashish joined ALAF limited as a Business Head responsible for P&L of $120 million business producing AZ coated steel for roofing and building solution.
His major accomplishments in his role included achievement of $120 million turnover for the year 2014-2015, reinforcement of philosophy of “zero defect” across the plant that increased product quality and reliability which resulted in reduction of rejection rate by 50%, led initiatives to reduce electrical consumption which resulted in a saving of $ 63,000 annually and won Tanzania Presidential Manufacturer of the Year Award (PMAYA) for five consecutive years for adapting the best manufacturing practices that provided safe and healthy work environment. Due to his strong performance in ALAF, Ashish was relocated to sister company Mabati Rolling Mills in Kenya in 2015. He became accountable for P&L of $200 million and his key responsibility was to provide strategic advice and design annual business plan and review progress to ensure that the company ran smoothly and efficiently.
He also prepared quarterly and annual board reports. 2million, restructuring of the organization to optimize staff performance, individual development and company growth and improved operational efficiency by streamlining companies core processes and implementing JIT and Kaizen. Ashish was appointed as ALAF CEO and rejoined the Company towards the end of 2020.
With experience in manufacturing spanning over 3 decades, Ashish comes to ALAF with a strong focus to improve operational efficiency and increase company’s profitability.
